In August of 2011, Steve Dezember II, was diagnosed with ALS, otherwise known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. The disorder is characterized by rapidly progressive weakness, muscle atrophy and fasciculations, muscle spasticity, difficulty speaking, difficulty swallowing and decline in breathing ability. The DRIVE Project was created to raise awareness and support for all those diagnosed with this horrible condition.
Since being diagnosed, Steve has been working diligently to spread awareness. Not only awareness about the disease itself, but living life to the fullest, following your dreams and living a life full of love. Steve and Hope Dezember married shortly after Steve was diagnosed & they have been fighting the battle together every step of the way. Art plays an important role in their lives, so they decided to implement their love for art into a way for spreading awareness. ALS has taken a lot from Steve including his ability to move, eat or even breathe on his own, but it has not taken his drive for life or his ability to drive his wheelchair.
The DRIVE Project is an expression of the creative freedom Steve still experiences, his drive to keep fighting and to share his love. With the assistance of Hope and Jeremy Brown, artist and founder of Love Is Art, Steve has and will continue to create and share beautiful one-of-a-kind pieces of abstract art. Proceeds from all DRIVE purchases will be contributed to ALS research, as well as towards Steve & Hope, to help cover continuous medical expenses. Join us on this journey.
Love + Live + DRIVE.
